What I Have Done

It has been a busy four years on the City Council-I have worked hard to increase communication between residents and the City and to prepare our community for future opportunities and challenges. Some of the accomplishments of my first term as your Alderman include:

Voice of the First Ward

  • Worked to secure $2 million in grants to fund the 151st Street reconstruction project
  • Responded to residents’ inquiries in a timely fashion
  • Resolved flooding, road repair and other issues that needed to be addressed
  • Acted as a mediator when residents had disputes with their developers
  • Led the effort to repave Gougar Road, from 151st Street to 147th Street
  • Offered community updates for residents on WJOL radio

Fiscal Watchdog, focused on Transparency

  • Cut City budget by 33% from $16 Million to $11 Million
  • Eliminated 18 full-time City staff positions
  • Implemented hiring freeze to create budget stability
  • Posted every bill the City pays online
  • Posted City budget online for the first time in the City’s history
  • Kept Lockport in the black, even though the State of Illinois owes us hundreds of thousands of dollars
  • Obtained $6 million in grants and stimulus funding for City projects

Protecting Our Families

  • Increased public services
    • Expanded Neighborhood Watch programs
    • More youth crime prevention programs
    • Additional senior citizen seminars on crime and scams
    • Ended the Police Department’s ticket quota policy
  • Kept Lockport foreclosures at one of the lowest rates in the area, even in an economic downturn
  • Attracted more residential homebuyers than most communities in the area through the homebuyer incentive program

Providing for the Future

  • For the first time in the history of Lockport, this Council has adopted a dedicated funding source for roads and infrastructure
  • Objective street condition analysis that ranks them by nationally-recognized criteria
  • Adopted plans to aggressively attract reputable businesses to the Downtown to make it a destination location
    • Developed a Downtown Master Plan and an I-355 Corridor Plan
    • 34 Lockport Chamber of Commerce New Business Ribbon Cuttings over the last 2 years
  • Rescued water utility service that was headed toward bankruptcy and protected the City from IEPA violations
